Chapel Hill Shootings: Condemning religion does not an Islamophobe make, Atheism does not a superior moral being make

She says this so much better than I ever could.

The War on Women, Racism & Hate Speech

I am re-blogging this FreeThoughtBlog (FtB) by PZ Meyers to help get the word.  As well as reading the FtB by PZ – linked to below – also click on the article PZ links to his first paragraph.  It takes you to one highlights some of the truly vile sub-reddits promoting Corrective Rape, Racism, Wife Beating and Other Revolting sub-Forums that Reddit allows to take place on their virtual space.

Scroll to the bottom of that second article and you will see a link to report Reddit to the FBI if you wish.  And I encourage you do just that, regardless of what country you live in.  This is not free speech.  It’s undiguised hate speech that encourages criminal behaviour, and by allowing them to to use resources and space, it makes Reddit complicit in my opinion.

Islamic penises get erected seeing mannequins » No Country for Women

http://freethoughtblogs.com/taslima/2014/07/25/islamic-penises-get-erected-seeing-mannequins/

You know, I want to laugh when I see such absurdity, but the sad truth is that this insane, idiotic, backwards and completely juvenile mindset rules the lives of so many women in so much of the world.

It fits right in with the ISIS Fatwa insisting all women in the ISIS controlled city of Mosul in Iraq, ages 14 to 46 submit to Female Genital Mutilation (FMG), also called Female Circumcision. to make it sound more “civilized.”

What, pray tell, is civilised, holy or “clean” as I’ve seen it justified a few times on other articles, about chopping off part or all of a girl’s or women’s labia.  Then sewing her together, leaving only a tiny hole to urinate, leading to painful sexual dysfunction, fistulas after giving birth, and other horrible, sometimes fatal, health problems.

While the barbaric practice of FMG did not start with the Islamic religion, extremist Muslims have certainly adopted such practices into their beliefs and worldviews.  As they have expanded their control over the minds and lives of countless other Muslims, this hideous “procedure” is no longer confined to tiny, isolated areas of the world and has made it’s way into Western societies, coming along with immigrant families who are taught this is the right and proper way to raise their daughters.

See, in my personal opinion, all these efforts to keep men from being “tempted” – apparently over something they can’t reasonably be expected to control…their dicks – has nothing to do with protecting the body and honour of girls and women.  It has everything to do with controlling them.  It is the mark of men who, because they are in general, physically stronger than women, and are raised in deeply entrenched patriarchal societies, use religion as just one more weapon in their aresenal to live the perpetual dream of heterosexual pubescent boys everywhere…use anything and everything to satisfy their hormonal urges and feelings of power.

Keep in mind that I feel this way about all of the major, monotheistic religions.  It’s just that right now, at this time in history, radical Islam is the one causing the most waves worldwide.

HarsH ReaLiTy Kickstarter

Edited July 12…Reason, to fix typos from hell. The original was supposed to be a draft. Tip for the day, do *not* try posting when half asleep…😆

Hello my friends,

This is something I’ve never done before – reblogged or in anyway advertised a Kickstarter campaign (or anything else that I recall)- so I hope that indicates for you just how badly I want this to succeed.

Opinionated Man (OM) of the personal blog, *HarsH ReaLiTy, is a devoted husband and a father. He has reached a crossroads in life…he must either have a successful Kickstarter with a modest goal of $10,000 (minimum) so he can write full-time, or be forced to cut his blogging activities down by 90%. I fear if he does, he will cease blogging altogether. And that I believe would be a tragic loss for all of us.

ON is, as the username suggests, a very opinionated fellow, who does a lot of what I call “Life Commentary” on a variety of subjects. He does so with great humour, sharp wit, keen insight and much kindness.

If you’ve never had the good fortune to come across his work, then I strongly advise you pop over soon and have yourself an in-depth look around his material.

If it’s you’re first visit to HaRsH ReaLiTy, I’d reccomend you start with his longer, meatier articles. They will, I believe, better demonstrate his writing chops! Though to be clear, his poetry and short posts are nothing to be sneezed at.

Jason (OM’s offline name 😊), my sincere apologies for letting this one escape before fully polished.

India, Rape Culture and Misogny – TRIGGER WARNING

Trigger warning:  The below reblog was written by an East Indian medical student currently living and working in India.  It contains material that may easily offend a good number of people.

A reminder that all comments on my blog are moderated.  If you are offended by this post and wish to lash out at me or any of my other readers, your comments will *not* be approved. Threats and personal attacks will result in your being immediately banned.

Please read my below preface and proceed at your own risk.

==============================

From a blogger who writes under the pseudonym Avicenna on his Freethought blog, “Atheist Medical Student Stuck in a Land of a Million Gods.”

It’s a very long post, but *well worth* the time it takes to read.

It delves deeply into culturally dangerous ground, discussing as it does – at length – the misogny & rape culture so deeply embedded in Indian society….and how one feeds the other to hurt both men and women.

Again, remember this is *not* my work.

However, I do think it’s a very important contribution in the fight for equality for all genders, and strongly believe it is a very important article that needs to reach as many people as possible.  Please understand that I am not reblogging this with any racial, sexist or political motive.

A Day in the Life of a Sexologist — Slut-shamed to death for saying yes to sex, murdered for saying no

Sadly, this is another story about another dead young women. And even though she felt driven to take her own life, the same cretins that mentally pushed her off that ledge, are still publicly attacking her.

I was alerted to this one by a male friend of mine.  He is openly a feminist and when he says he loves and respects women, he is being perfectly honest.

And no, for any smartass reader who happens to land on my blog by mistake, he is straight.  See guys, you don’t have to be gay, bi or transgendered to understand that we (women) deserve respect and equality, in all matters.

Try Writing

I know, I know. I keep reblogging when I should be writing. Is it my fault there are so many wonderful writers to be found on WordPress? 🙂

This one, from Stuart M. Perkins on his blog “storyshuckers,” is a priceless response to a non-WordPress blogger who apparently wrote a post on his blog, putting down the rest of talentless bloggers, who apparently annoy him by posting our drivel on the internet!

Storyshucker

“Thousands of people who write believe they are better than thousands of others. They believe they will pen the next great American novel but their writing is dull and full of grammatical errors. Why do they write anything intended to be read by the public? Why do they write?”

I read those lines and was impelled to respond. The blogger’s entire post was arrogant and sarcastic, but those lines were the cherries on top. After I acknowledged that he can post what he likes on his own blog, I then asked if rather than squelch ambitions with a negative message about imperfection, he could instead applaud people for their attempts, for our attempts because I am one of the imperfect. But, we still try.

I don’t necessarily like being serious because, well, it’s not funny. I love a little arrogance and sarcasm as much as anyone, maybe more than…

Catholic Schoolboys Rule: Neo-Conservatism and the Sociopathy of the Religious Right

I found this wonderful gem through a reblog of it by M-R. I sincerely hope it gets Freshly Pressed and wins every award WordPress has to offer!

This could very well apply to my country (Canada), the United States or any other Western, supposedly secular run nation. The Christian right, no matter their geographic location, do seem to be making good headway into politics in places we have long since voted and fought to separate state from Church.

This article is, in my opinion, one of the best I’ve seen in a very long time in what seems a new fight to suppress religious extremism of any stripe.

I hope it strikes a good blow!

Is this country being run by right-wing Christian fundamentalists? And if so, are they representative of the wider society? These are some of the issues examined by Sean Stinson.

“Sometimes it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission”. – Tony Abbott, 2010

In September 2013 Australia elected its 44th Parliament. Led by a former seminarian and composed largely of fellow Jesuit-educated Catholics, it is fair to say that today’s Cabinet represents an extreme right-wing Christian world view which is not particularly representative of the beliefs and values of the broader culture.

This may go some way towards explaining some of the more bizarre policy measures thus far introduced. From a military led attack on asylum seekers to a scorched earth environmental policy, from mass public service sackings to jobs for the boys, from pre-election promises of no cuts to a budget blueprint for an American…
